In the light of the Jamie-Lynn Spears accident, there's nothing as current and appropriate as Juno. Like Little Miss Sunshine, it is a pleasant and understated film against serious heavyweights this year.Perhaps too early to pass judgment, but I found greater meaning in this than the melodramatic Atonement. They should stop awarding aging actresses who gave seriously profound performances too often, as it gets too predictable sometimes. Give it to Ellen Page, for the poise, humour and certain vulnerability she displayed in the title character. Michael Cera is endearing. The rest of the supporting cast fit really well. Jason Bateman, a little forgettable. Kimya Dawson's music reminds me of The Magnetic Fields' in Pieces of April, just as folksy, captivating and essential. Watch it for love, and happiness.Yes, day one this year is probably the best in the last, say five to eight years.
Probably the bloodiest (graphically) Tim Burton film. The lack for sympathy for all characters might just be, a little disturbing for some. But it is an adaptation after all.Sasha Baron Cohen's appearances drew giggles in the theatre.Helena Bonham Carter absolutely steals the show, even from Johnny Depp. Was expecting a little more though, besides the rather, lacklustre ending. Yes, don't expect it to be bittersweet.
